Part I – Written Exam

Format: The Part I Exam will be conducted online only.

Candidates whose application has been reviewed and approved will be eligible to register for the Part I Examination during the official registration period.

Exam Procedure Part I:

The exam will start at 10:00 a.m. and last for 2 hours. A total of 100 multiple-choice questions must be answered within this time.

A pre-exam meeting with all relevant instructions will be held at 9:40 a.m. A parallel Zoom meeting will be available during the exam, allowing candidates to ask questions if needed.

In collaboration with Heidelberg University and UCAM, a new secure online exam tool has been developed to ensure fairness and minimize cheating.

Technical Requirements:

  • Desktop or laptop computer with internet access
  • Latest version of Chrome, Safari, or Firefox
  • Ability to join a Zoom meeting (participation in the Zoom call during the exam is mandatory)
  • A working microphone and camera must remain switched on throughout the entire examination.
  • Candidates must ensure they have access to a quiet, uninterrupted environment for the duration of the exam. If the camera or microphone is switched off at any time during the Part I Examination, the candidate will be excluded from the examination.

Marking and Pass Criteria

There is no negative marking in the exam, so candidates are encouraged to answer all questions. A formal standard-setting process following the Angoff Technique will be conducted by the Panel of Examiners and the Executive Committee after the exam.
The pass mark will be determined based on the performance of the “average/standard candidate.”

Candidates who achieve a score above the pass mark in the Part I written exam will be eligible to proceed to Part II (oral exam) of the European Board Examination.

Exam policy

  • NO personal items such as electronic devices, books, papers, notes, briefcases, PDA´s… are allowed during the exam.
  • NO mobile phones are allowed during the exam. Mobile phones should be switched off before the exam.

All exam content is strictly confidential. Any unauthorized possession, reproduction, or distribution of exam materials before, during, or after the exam will be treated as a serious violation and may result in disqualification and further disciplinary action.

Exam results

Candidates will be notified by email once the results are available.

Access to results requires a username and password. Results will not be provided via phone, fax, or email.

Non-Attendance Policy

Candidates who do not attend the exam on the scheduled day forfeit their right to sit the exam and lose the registration fee, unless a written justification is submitted to the Board prior to the exam.

The Exam Coordinators and Senior Members of the Board will be available and present throughout the entire duration of the exam.
