Overview
The European Board Examination in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (E.B.E. ORL-HNS) assesses the professional knowledge and competence of specialists across Europe.
It consists of two parts, designed to evaluate both theoretical understanding and clinical decision-making skills.
The European Board Exam consists of two parts:
- Part I – Written Examination
A 100-question multiple-choice exam covering the entire ORL-HNS syllabus.
Only one answer per question is correct.
There are no negative markings for incorrect answers. - Part II – Oral Examination
A structured oral exam based on clinical cases and problem-solving scenarios.
Only candidates who have successfully passed Part I are eligible to sit Part II.
- Both parts must be successfully completed to obtain certification.
Candidates who pass both parts and are already recognized as specialists in their home countries receive the title:
“Fellow of the European Board of ORL-HNS.”
Successful candidates from UEMS countries who are not yet certified specialists will receive a
“Diploma of the European Board of Otorhinolaryngology,” which can later be upgraded upon submission of a valid specialty certificate.
Language: All examinations are conducted exclusively in English.
Document Requirements: All official documents required to sit the exam must be translated into English (a translation certified or stamped by the issuing university or hospital is sufficient) and submitted together with the original copies.
